About the Society

Dr Mahendra Parikh, Founder President of ISAR felt the need of and mooted the idea of forming an Indian Society for promoting Assisted Reproduction. Accordingly he called a historic meeting on Saturday the 16th of February 1991 at 6 pm at AREX Hall, IMA Building, Mumbai 400049.

It was formed to help poor & needy infertile couples and bring a smile & happiness in their lives.

It been 25 years since the society was formed. Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction is a dedicated organization organizing many educational activities in the field of Assisted Reproduction.

ISAR has at present a membership strength of 4110 members from all over India.

ISAR is a multi specialty association. We have IVF & ART Specialists, Gynaecologists, Embryologists, ART Technologists, Counselors & para medical staff.

In 2018 we have made a constitutional amendment that ISAR will bring together medical personnel, allied scientists, organisations, philanthropists and institutions interested in various aspects of Assisted Reproduction for helping infertile couples and for developing newer and more efficient technologies for ART, family welfare and other aspects of Reproductive Medicine which includes but not necessarily limited to Contraception, Endocrinology, Menopause, Andrology, Reproductive Genetics, Reproductive Surgery, Psychology & Counselling, Stem Cell Therapy, Fertility Preservation and Ethics & Law.

IVF & ART is a boon for all. The main aim of ISAR as a society is to spread knowledge on advancements in the field of ART & IVF and help the common people with the new technologies which will enable us for the betterment of the society.

Even during the pandemic of Covid-19 we had many online webinars, online conferences etc. for members and were constantly spreading knowledge through virtual events.

ISAR Journal – JHRS (Journal of Human Reproductive Sciences)

First Journal Issue (Print version) of JHRS (Journal of Human Reproductive Sciences) was released at the 13th National Congress at Bhubaneshwar in 2008. It is also online since February 2007.

ISAR Dr Sadhana Desai Embryology Training course

ISAR Dr Sadhana Desai Embryology Training course was started in the year 2014-2015

ISAR had started Embryology certification course of 13 months, for those interested in ‘Assisted Reproductive Technology’. ISAR Embryology training programme has completed 7 years and now running successfully with a positive response from aspiring candidates.

The course for Embryologists is to educate aspiring Medical graduates & post graduate candidates through meticulously designed programmes by experts in the field. The course comprises online access to theory part and hands-on practical training on animal models at Manipal University. The course for IVF Technologists is to provide opportunities to medical graduates or science graduates interested in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technology. The course comprises online evaluation of theory chapters related to the IVF laboratory.

The candidates have to undergo 2 weeks hands-on training on animal models at clinical embryology division of Manipal University, Udupi under the expert guidance of Dr Satish Kumar Adiga (Professor & Head, Clinical Embryology). This is followed by observer cum practical training for the period of 4 months at IVF approved centres of ISAR. The candidates will also complete 2nd& 3rd online theory Module & will undergo three days practical training in ICSI at Intermedics, Khar. This will be followed by viva exam in February.

ISAR Dr Sadhana Desai Endowment Fund

Considering the increasing number of infertile couples seeking IVF treatment in India and the exorbitant costs involved in it, all patients who cannot afford expensive IVF treatment can now get a helping hand from the ISAR Dr Sadhana Desai Endowment Fund

Dr Sadhana Desai established this fund in order to extend a helping hand to economically indigent couples. Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) graciously agreed to be part of this noble cause. This Fund provides an aid of Rs 50,000/- per eligible couple undergoing IVF in India.
